Alert Procedure

This page documents the guidelines and procedures for each of the alert levels aboard the station. Note that these are not laws, and the Captain may alter them as they see fit. Make sure to look at the Standard Operating Procedure for universal guidelines that do not change with the alert level. Note that only one alert level may be set at once, so the most relevant alert should be chosen.

Line of succession

The Line of Succession is the order in which different departmental heads or others take command of the crew if the person before them is not available. The Line of Succession changes depending on the ship's alert level.

When a person is in command of the crew they should avoid leaving the station, since this usually means abandoning their post.

Note that when the Captain is not available, persons below them in the Line of Succession are not any form of "Acting Captain" and do not by means of regulation receive any notional promotion or temporary promotion, right to the Captain's equipment, increase in powers, immunity to regulations and law, or the ability to change procedure; they are simply in charge of the good running of the crew and take on the burden of emergency decision-making until a higher positioned person in the line of succession is available to relieve them.

Note also that "ranking department head" refers to the real department heads, and not any person in charge of a department in the absence of a real head. For example, a Doctor in the absence of a Chief Medical Officer is not a department head.

Levels of alert

Code Green

The normal operating procedure. There is no threat to the ship, nor crew.

Chain of Command, Line of Succession	Captain > HOP > Ranking Department Head > Crew When multiple people are of the same branch, they may choose amongst themselves.
Weapons and Armor	Non-lethal weapons may be worn openly by security personnel. Security personnel must stow lethal weapons out of sight, in a holster, or on body armor. Crew, Passengers, and Visitors who are authorized to carry weapons must conceal them. Body armor is authorized wear for security personnel only.
Discipline	Follow due process.
Medical	Suit Sensors are not mandatory at any setting.
Engineering	EVA suit wear completely authorised
Rules of Engagement	Engage with the minimum required force to subdue a target, dependent on their threat and level of compliance. De-escalation prioritised.
Docking	Docking procedures normal
Telecomms	Galactic Common only on common frequency, all systems unrestricted

Code Violet

Elevated level of alert: there is a major medical emergency onboard

Chain of Command, Line of Succession	Captain > HOP > CMO > Ranking Department Head > Crew The Captain and HOP should defer to the CMO on medical concerns. When multiple people are of the same branch, they may choose amongst themselves.
Weapons and Armor	Non-lethal weapons may be worn openly by security personnel. Security personnel must stow lethal weapons out of sight, in a holster, or on body armor. Crew, Passengers, and Visitors who are authorized to carry weapons must conceal them. Body armor is authorized wear for security personnel only.
Discipline	Follow due process. Non-medical personnel are to ensure they aren't getting in any medical staff's way, up to and including ordering the halls cleared, and must obey relevant instructions from medical personnel, such as leaving an area, remaining in quarantine, or assisting in rescue efforts if capable.
Medical	Medical personnel required to report to supervisor for orders. EVA equipment recommended for emergency responders, if relevant. Suit Sensors are required to be set to the highest possible level. All personnel should ensure they have a functioning emergency air supply.
Engineering	EVA suit wear completely authorised
Rules of Engagement	Engage with the minimum required force to subdue a target, dependent on their threat and level of compliance. De-escalation prioritised.
Docking	Docking should be suspended if the emergency is a result of a viral outbreak or xenobiological threat.
Telecomms	Galactic Common only on common frequency, all systems unrestricted

Code Yellow

Elevated level of alert: there is a major engineering emergency onboard.

Chain of Command, Line of Succession	Captain > HOP > CE > Ranking Department Head > Crew The Captain and HOP should defer to the Chief Engineer on engineering concerns. When multiple people are of the same branch, they may choose amongst themselves.
Weapons and Armor	Non-lethal weapons may be worn openly by security personnel. Security personnel must stow lethal weapons out of sight, in a holster, or on body armor. Crew, Passengers, and Visitors who are authorized to carry weapons must conceal them. Body armor is authorized wear for security personnel only.
Discipline	Follow due process. Non-engineering personnel are to evacuate any affected areas, and must obey relevant instruction from engineering personnel, such as an order to evacuate or stay in an area.
Medical	Suit Sensors recommended to be set to the highest possible level. All personnel should ensure they have a functioning emergency air supply.
Engineering	Engineering personnel required to report to supervisor for orders. EVA suits mandatory.
Rules of Engagement	Engage with the minimum required force to subdue a target, dependent on their threat and level of compliance. De-escalation prioritised.
Docking	Docking procedures normal
Telecomms	Galactic Common only on common frequency, all systems unrestricted
Evacuation	The ship should be evacuated if the damage is not feasibly repairable without great loss of life, if not evacuating would result in total loss of crew, or if damage is so severe that breakup is imminent.

Code Blue

Elevated alert status: Major security threat onboard.

Chain of Command, Line of Succession	Captain > HOP > HOS > Ranking Department Head > Crew The Captain or hop should defer to the Chief of Security on security concerns. When multiple people are of the same branch, they may choose amongst themselves.
Weapons and Armor Lethal and non-lethal weapons may be worn openly by authorized personnel. Body armour is mandatory wear for security personnel, and authorized for all other personnel. Helmets are recommended for security personnel.
Discipline	Security personnel required to report to supervisor for orders. Arrests: Same procedures as Code Green. Searches: No physical warrant is required, but searches must still be approved by the authorities listed in due process.
Medical	Binary suit sensor setting is mandatory. EVA suit wear recommended for emergency responders.
Engineering	EVA suit wear suggested for engineers. Emergency internals should be easily accessible for all personnel.
Rules of Engagement	Engage with the minimum required force to subdue a target, dependent on their threat and level of compliance.
Docking	Docking should be restricted if the docked vessel will contribute to the ongoing security risk. If it is safe for the vessel to dock, they may do so.
Telecomms	Galactic Common only on common frequency, all systems unrestricted

Code Red

Emergency alert status: multiple emergencies onboard.

Chain of Command, Line of Succession	Captain > HOP > Ranking Department Head > Crew When multiple people are of the same branch, they may choose amongst themselves.
Weapons and Armor	Body armor, helmet, and weapon mandatory for security. Open carry of weapons permitted for all authorized personnel.
Discipline	All staff report to their supervisor for orders. Arrests and searches may be performed at discretion of security personnel. Arrests of Officers permitted at discretion of security personnel. All personnel, including security staff, must obey relevant instruction from emergency services who are attending their emergency situations.
Medical	Full suit sensors are mandatory. EVA suit wear mandatory for emergency responders.
Engineering	EVA suit wear mandatory for all engineers. Emergency internals mandatory for all personnel.
Rules of Engagement	Engage with the minimum required force to subdue a target, dependent on their threat and level of compliance, as security staff.
Docking	Docking should be suspended if the ship's hull is unstable or if there is a legitimate, dangerous security risk to which the docking vessel will contribute or cause.
Evacuation	The ship should be evacuated if the damage is not feasibly repairable without great loss of life, if not evacuating would result in total loss of crew, or if damage is so severe that breakup is imminent.
Telecomms	Galactic Common only on common frequency, Departmental comms should be kept relatively clear of unnecessary chatter, Physical security of telecommunications chamber advised.

Code Delta

Station has been designated for destruction, evacuation highly recommended, also used when the vessel is issued as a target to a deathsquad.

Discipline	Report to your deathsquad for summary execution.
Evacuation	If station is designated for destruction, evacuate as soon as possible
